Privacy Policy
What stays private, what is processed, and the choices you have.
Beloved is a gentle daily companion for prayer and scripture. This policy explains, in plain words, what happens to anything you write or keep in the app. The short version: almost everything stays on your own device, and we do not track you.
No advertising. No tracking. No analytics.
Who runs Beloved
Beloved is provided by Kevin McCulloch. If you have a question about your privacy, you can write to us at hello@yourlaunchkit.co.uk.
What is kept on your device
The things you save and set in Beloved are stored only on your device. We do not send them to, or keep them on, any server of ours:
- Saved prayers and verses — the ones you choose to keep.
- Prayer intentions — what you tell Beloved you are carrying, so it can gently remember.
- Your settings — such as your chosen text size.
- Your reminder times — the morning and evening times you choose.
- A monthly count of the personal prayers you have asked for, so the app knows your free allowance for the month.
- A random technical identifier — used only to apply fair-use protection to personal-prayer requests. It contains no name, email, advertising identifier, or prayer content.
Because this lives on your device, it is not backed up to us and we cannot see it.
Private backup files
If you choose Export private backup, Beloved creates a file containing your saved prayers, verses, remembered intentions, text-size choice, and reminder times. The file is given directly to you; Beloved does not upload or receive it. Because it may contain sensitive prayer content, keep it somewhere you trust. Importing a backup merges it with what is already on your device.
What leaves your device, briefly
When you ask Beloved to write a personal prayer for you, the theme you pick and any words you type are sent to our writing service provider so a prayer can be written and sent back to you. Once the prayer is returned, that request is finished. We do not store what you sent or the prayer that came back.
Our writing service provider for this is xAI, which processes the request on our behalf to generate the prayer. Beloved's xAI API team uses Zero Data Retention, so the words sent and the prayer returned are processed only to answer that request and are not retained by xAI after it completes. They are not used to build a profile of you, and we keep no copy of them.
To prevent automated abuse and protect the cost of the service, our server converts the random technical identifier and network address into one-way pseudonymous hashes before counting requests. Raw identifiers and network addresses are not written to the usage database or sent to the prayer-writing provider. The pseudonymous hashes, counting periods and aggregate totals may be retained for up to 120 days. Operational logs contain status, token and cost totals—not your prayer words or saved content.
Optional AI read-aloud voice
If the Gentle AI read aloud option is available and you choose it, the prayer text is sent securely to Microsoft Azure Speech in the UK South region solely to create the spoken audio. Beloved does not store the text or resulting audio. Microsoft states that text and audio from real-time prebuilt voice requests are not retained or used to train its speech models. If the service is unavailable, Beloved falls back to your device's own read-aloud voice.
Sharing
Share cards are created on your device. Beloved does not upload the verse or prayer to create them. Content leaves your device only when you confirm sharing through your phone or browser; personal prayers receive an extra confirmation first.
Reminders
If you turn on daily reminders (available in the iPhone app), the two gentle notes each day are scheduled by your phone itself. Nothing about your reminders is sent to us.
Your optional Beloved account
You can use Beloved's free prayer and scripture features without an account. If you choose to create an account or sign in, we use your email address to send a secure sign-in link (or, where available, a six-digit sign-in code) and to let your Beloved Plus access follow you between devices. Supabase, our account provider, stores the email address and the technical authentication records needed to keep you signed in. Your saved prayers, intentions, and other private content are not added to your account and remain on your device.
Purchases
If you choose Beloved Plus on the website, checkout is provided securely through RevenueCat and Stripe; purchases in the iPhone app are handled through Apple's App Store. We never see or store your full card details. These providers receive the purchase, payment-method and technical information needed to complete the transaction, prevent fraud and confirm that Beloved Plus is active. If you later link an account, RevenueCat receives the technical account identifier needed to make that access available on your signed-in devices.
Essential browser storage
On the website, Beloved uses browser storage to remember your saved content, settings, free allowance and a signed-in session if you choose to create an account. Checkout and account providers may also use cookies or similar storage that are strictly necessary for security and to complete the service you requested. Beloved does not use advertising cookies.
A note on faith
What you write in a prayer or an intention may reveal something about your religious beliefs. Under UK data-protection law (UK GDPR) that is treated as a special, more sensitive kind of personal information. That is exactly why Beloved keeps it on your device and never keeps a copy of it. Words sent to write a personal prayer are used only to write that prayer and are not stored by us.
Your rights and choices
- You can remove any saved prayer, verse, or intention from within the app at any time.
- You choose whether to create, keep, share, or delete a private backup file.
- You can sign out in Settings or use Request account deletion to ask us to remove your account and email address.
- You can delete the app to remove all of the data it holds on your device.
- Under UK GDPR you have rights over your personal data. Since we do not retain your prayer content or saved material on our servers, the surest way to remove that content is through the steps above; if you have any question, please contact us at hello@yourlaunchkit.co.uk.
- You can also complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk, although we hope you will contact us first so we can try to help.
